HACT

Year of publication: 2011

This report captures the learning from the 12 partnerships established between community anchors and housing associations in the HACT Together for Communities project launched in early 2011.

The Together for Communities initiative looked to explore how housing providers could provide practical assistance and development support to independent community-owned and led organisations, working in more deprived neighbourhoods. The focus of the partnerships would be on supporting community-based organisations to achieve their regeneration goals and deliver improvements to the lives of residents. Equally, the partnerships would enable community anchors to support housing providers in engaging with community development issues.

Part 2 of the report covers the 12 partnerships in detail and summarises that the partnerships created between housing providers and community based groups are:

  • Sustainable
  • Replicable
  • Accountable
  • Complementary
  • Innovative

These key points are covered in more detail in Part 3 of the report – ‘Capturing the Learning’ which explores how the economic environment and downturn may ‘threaten the stability of our most disadvantaged communities’ and that landlords have a responsibility to support the most disadvantaged in those communities affected.

They conclude that The Together for Communities project offers insights into how this new territory can be navigated, and highlights the value that can be released through effective partnership between affordable housing providers and community-based groups.
