A research report to highlight the economic impact of house building.

There is a call from the HBF to increase housing building by 100,000 and the report shows the additional economic impact that would have:

  • £1.1bn more net capital expenditure
  • £13.6bn increase in economic output
  • 430,000 extra jobs
  • £1.2bn more tax paid
  • £432m extra investment in local infrastructure
  • £.3.2bn resident spending on goods and services

The study looks at the economic, social and environmental benefits that day-to-day housebuilding generates, and wider benefits that are harder to quantify, such as:

  • Re-use of brownfield sites;
  • Sector skills and employability; and
  • Quality of place.
