Mayor of London

Year of publication: 2018

This good practice guide sets out the principles and mechanisms of estate renewal that the mayor wants to implement across London. The key proposals are:

  • Resident consultation and involvement at every stage of regeneration
  • In the case of demolition there will be:
  • o a mandatory ballot;
  • o social tenants are guaranteed full rights to return and leaseholders and freeholders are given a fair deal; and
  • o the number of social housing properties remains the same or increases.

The guide is aimed at residents and aims to support a positive relationship between residents, housing associations, local authorities and partners. It includes a number of case studies and should be read in conjunction with the following documents:

  • The Mayor’s draft London Plan
  • The Mayor’s draft London Housing Strategy
  • The Mayor’s Affordable Housing and Viability Supplementary Planning Guidance
